What is a man without his name? His title? His fortune? In Rossini’s timeless romantic comedy, the cunning Count Almaviva peels away his nobility and wealth in pursuit of true love. Through a series of disguises, personas, traps, and haircuts, he and his barber/accomplice Figaro show us why many consider The Barber of Seville to be the quintessential comedic opera. Featuring some of the most instantly recognizable melodies in all of opera, the Met’s effervescent production stars Isabel Leonard as the feisty Rosina, Lawrence Brownlee as her conspiring flame and Christopher Maltman as the endlessly resourceful and charming barber, Figaro. Michele Mariotti conducts the vivid and tuneful score.
