In 2009 Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari was arrested for treason, based on such “evidence” as his participation in a segment of The Daily Show only days before. He was interrogated and tortured for 118 days by a man who smelled of roses. Jon Stewart’s directing debut tells Bahari’s story with a dynamic combination of humor, political commentary and a focus on the pursuit of truth. A. O.
