American director James Longley spent more than two years filming in Iraq to create this stunningly photographed, poetic documentary of the war-torn country as seen through the eyes of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds. An opus in three parts, this 2007 Academy Award nominee offers a series of intimate, passionately-felt portraits: an 11-year-old apprentice at a Baghdad garage, Sadr followers rallying for regional elections, and Kurdish farmers who actually welcome the US presence in Iraq.  D: James Longley, UK, 2007, 94m
