Rachmaninoff All-Night Vigil
LOUIS BURKOT director
Rachmaninoff All-Night Vigil
With its yearning melodies, rich sonority, meditative text and rumble-of-the-earth basso profundo notes, Rachmaninoff’s 15-movement Vigil is both deeply Russian and universally loved. Composed in 1915 to support Russia in the First World War, it was immediately embraced by the public and has become one of the defining choral works of the 20th century.
