Meryl Streep stars as a tone-deaf 1940s socialite determined to sing in Carnegie Hall, while her manager (Hugh Grant) desperately protects her from the truth about her “talent.”
In 1940s New York, wealthy socialite Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep) obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. With Florence determined to perform in Carnegie Hall, her “husband” and manager St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant, showing his range) goes to great lengths to protect her from the truth. “Streep in grande dame mode is not to be missed” (Time Out). D: Stephen Frears, UK, 2016, 110m
