Soo Sunny Park Examines Place in Art Museum Exhibition (The Huffington Post)

Dartmouth’s Soo Sunny Park, an associate professor of studio art, is one of two artists featured in a new exhibition at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. The exhibition featuring Park’s installation, SSVT (South Strafford, Vermont) Vapor Slide (2007), opened on November 17.

Using such items as pieces of chain link fence, paper clips, and river rocks, Park’s installation recreates Vermont’s snowy landscape. “What she really does is transform these everyday, quotidien materials into this installation that just is poetic,” Cranbrook Art Museum Director Greg Wittkopp tells The Huffington Post.

As The Huffington Post notes, the exhibit is meant to showcase the work of Cranbook Academy of Art graduates—Park earned her MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2000. Park, who began teaching at Dartmouth in 2005, is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell MFA Grant, and grand prize winner of the 19th Annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition, Cité Internationale des Arts Studio Residency, Paris, France.
