Digital Lab Online Workshops Spring 2020

The Digital Lab is online this term!

To aid in the education of everyone who wants to learn and use digital art and media softwares, regardless of computer processing power or ability to access costly software, workshops during this term will be on free or freemium software.

Workshops will occur on various days of the week from 5:30PM to 7:30PM EST, unless otherwise posted. To register, please send Jess an email to obtain the Zoom meeting ID and password.

In advance of the workshop please have the program downloaded and installed to facilitate learning right from the beginning of the workshop! If you have some time, play around with the interface to become more familiar with it, though we will cover the basics of the interface.

Darktable - Thursday, April 2, 2020
Darktable is an open source photography software for both organization and editing of photos, for both raw and compressed image formats. We'll cover the basic interface and how touse the editing tools and export images.

DaVinci Resolve Monday, April 6, 2020
DaVinci Resolve is a freemium software, where you can access and use the software for free, but there are certain advanced components that require the paid studio package. We will be covering the interface of the program, as well as the basic video editing workflow, transitions,and we'll lightly touch color correcting, before learning how to export the final video.

GIMP Tuesday April 14, 2020 
GIMP is an open source raster based editing that can do photo editing as well as digital drawingand painting. We'll cover the interface, then move on to both creating digital art from scratch and editing photographs.

Inkscape Thursday, April 23, 2020
Inkscape is an open source vector software that allows you to make beautiful logos and other vector designs. We'll learn the interface and how to make unique vector designs.

Blender for 3D Modeling Monday, April 27, 2020
Blender is a powerful open source software for 3D modeling and animation, and has been used to create anything from a model for 3D printing to award winning short films. In this workshop we'll look at the interface and how to make and manipulate 3D objects, as well as building complex shapes.

Blender for Animation Tuesday, May 5, 2020
Blender can be used for animation, both in 3D and 2D as well. We'll scratch the surface on both of these types of animation. It would be ideal to be comfortable with the Blender interface, but having knowledge of other 3D modeling softwares may be sufficient.

Audacity Thursday, May 14, 2020
Audacity is an open source audio editing software that can handle recording as well. We'll talk about ideal recording scenarios, and then how to edit audio that wasn't recorded in such ideal circumstances to reduce noise and make the audio as clear as possible.

Scribus Tuesday, May 19, 2020
Scribus is an open source page layout program that is useful for making lovely PDFs and can be used for pamphlet, magazine, and booklet production! We'll look at the interface and lay outsome text and images.
