Biography

Zenovia Toloudi, D.Des., is an architect, artist, scholar, and Associate Professor of Architecture in Studio Art at Dartmouth College. Situated at the intersection of art and architecture, her creative and theoretical work explores the growing disconnection between people and their environments, both natural and constructed. She examines how individualism within dominant cultural frameworks shapes spatial experience and the physical environment, contributing to the fragmentation of social relationships. Through creative interventions and critical inquiry, she seeks to restore lost connections and repair spatial fragments.

Zenovia's methodology merges artistic practice with architectural theory, producing site-specific installations that investigate the act of building and its relationship to lived experience. Evolving from a focus on the ephemeral, her work has deepened into a more situated practice emphasizing place, ecology, and the public realm.  Combining embodied research—both in the shop and in the field—with critical theory, she examines architecture's temporal nature and its connections to site, process, and human experience.

With over 35 exhibitions and public installations across the US and Europe, Zenovia brings decades of experience to her art practice. Her work has been featured at prestigious venues such as the Venice Biennale, the Center for Architecture in New York, the Athens Byzantine Museum, Le Lieu Unique in Nantes, the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens, and the Saint-Gaudens Memorial. She has been commissioned by Illuminus Boston and The Lab at Harvard, and her work is included in the permanent collections of Aristotle University and the Thracian Pinacotheca.

Zenovia has authored over 20 academic articles and book chapters on art and architecture, published in venues such as The Routledge Companion to Biology in Art and Architecture and Technoetic Arts: Journal of Speculative Research. A catalogue for her solo exhibition, Technoutopias, was also produced. Research Fellow at Art, Culture, and Technology Program at MIT, and a Fulbright Fellow, Zenovia received her doctorate from Harvard's Graduate School of Design, a M.Arch. from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a diploma in Architectural Engineering from Aristotle University. Raised in Alexandroupolis, Evros, at the periphery of Greece, Zenovia works in the Mediterranean and North America, and her fascination with these landscapes is expressed through art and architecture that traverse the boundaries of ecology, society, and technology.
